Graston Technique – Patellar Tendinopathy from MSK Clinics on Vimeo.

In this video we demonstrate a treatment in someone with patellar tendinopathy which means that there is irritation and damage to the tendon attaching the kneecap to the shin. People with this condition will commonly experience pain below their knee cap when they run, jump, descend stairs or sit in a movie theatre for too long.

We will use a small amount of lotion to allow the instrument to slide on the skin and then using light to moderate pressure we treat the tissue using short brush strokes.

One special thing about the Graston instruments is that they transmit vibration through the instrument to our hands so that when the instrument passes over an area of scar tissue, we can feel that coarse texture and can then spend time treating the area.  In the right hands, these are instruments of both assessment and treatment.
