What is tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is another name for lateral epicondylitis or epicondylosis, a common overuse injury on the outside of the elbow.
The pain usually occurs when you grip, pinch or twist eg. by lifting a coffee cup or opening a jar. There is often tenderness on the outside of the elbow where the tendon attaches to the bone.

Who can suffer from tennis elbow?
Injury can occur from overuse associated with racket sports (eg. tennis, squash), repetitive jobs (eg. carpentry, knitting) or computer use. People of all ages can suffer from lateral epicondylitis, however, the most common age range is 30-60 years old.
How is tennis elbow treated?
MSK Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, and Massage therapists all frequently treat tennis elbow.
The best treatment plan depends on your specific case. Treatment often involves specific stretches and exercises to the forearm muscles. Some modalities may include Shockwave Therapy, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (eg. Graston technique), massage, and Active Release Technique (ART).
Why is it important to seek treatment?
Tennis elbow often becomes chronic if left untreated. Many patients may suffer for months or years.
