Do I have to take my clothes off for massage treatment?
Massage therapy treatments are best performed through the skin on skin contact. Your therapist can modify the treatment to work directly over clothing or over sheets if desired.
→ You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort. Many people choose to leave their underwear on. The simple answer is that you will never be asked to undress to a level that makes you uncomfortable.
→ It is up to you on which articles of clothing to remove as you will be instructed to undress to your comfort level, however, most patients choose to fully disrobe. Sheets are provided so you can cover yourself prior to the registered massage therapist entering the room. During treatment, only the areas being worked on will be uncovered, all other areas will be covered by sheets and blankets.
We understand that visiting a new practitioner can bring up questions about what to expect, especially regarding attire. This guide is here to clarify everything, so you can feel completely prepared and confident for your appointment.

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT):
Your privacy is guaranteed with “Professional Draping”: Our Registered Massage Therapists at MSK are trained professionals who use a technique called draping. You will be covered by a sheet and blanket at all times. The therapist will only uncover the specific part of the body they are working on (e.g., your back or one leg) before securely re-covering it. Your modesty and privacy are maintained throughout the entire session. You are always in control, and you can communicate with your therapist about your comfort levels at any time.
We hope this guide has answered your questions and helped you feel more comfortable about your upcoming visit.
For Physiotherapy & Chiropractic Appointments:
For physiotherapy and chiropractic assessments, we need to be able to see and assess the area of the treatment or injury. Therefore, we recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely.
- For lower body injuries (hip, knee, ankle) → Please bring a pair of shorts.
- For upper body injuries (shoulder, neck, back) → A tank top or sports bra is ideal for female patients. Your comfort is always the priority.
- General tip → Athletic wear is almost always a perfect choice for these appointments.
